Virus Prevention

&

Real-time Protection
The ESET NOD32 Antivirus program offers solid virus scanning, protection, and removal features

It's USB virus protection is exceptionally strong—and completely automatic.

it even has decent spyware protection, too.
Our Panda Antivirus review was fairly lukewarm on the subject of its standard virus protection, but it did perform adequately against standard threats.

It has a firewall, rare for a basic antivirus program, but it has to be installed separately.

Once it is, don't expect the firewall to turn on automatically.

Great feature, botched implementation.

User Interface

&

Technical Support
ESET is a well-designed product.

From installation onward, it's straightforward and clean.

Its tech support, however, is second to none (only VIPRE provides equally excellent support services).

Virus removal for current customers is always free, too, and support staff are very knowledgeable, helpful and easy to access.
Panda seems like it isn't designed with the user in mind. Its interface is difficult to read in subsections; one has to install the USB virus protection feature separately, and its tech support isn't on the same level as ESET.

On top of that, there's a fluctuating fee for virus removal (even for viruses that escaped Panda security), and the representatives were unable or unwilling to commit to a pricing structure in our calls.

Additional
Features
ESET offers very solid email protection though the basic version lacks anti-phishing. Panda, like ESET, doesn't offer comprehensive antiphishing protection, but it does provide web browser security which held up fairly well during testing.
